- We collect little. An account (name, email, username), your reading library and progress, and — for creators — the payout details needed to pay you (Section 2).
- Meta handles most reader data. Headset data, sensor data and payment cards for in-VR purchases are collected and processed by Meta under Meta's own privacy policy — Readality never receives them (Section 3).
- We never sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers and platforms needed to run Readality (Section 5).
- Your data belongs to you. You can access, correct, delete or take your information at any time (Section 10).

Readality Inc. (“Readality”, “we”, “our” or “us”), a corporation incorporated under the laws of Canada with its principal place of business at 1455 Blvd. De Maisonneuve Ouest, Montreal, Quebec H3G 1M8, respects the privacy rights of its users and is committed to protecting the personal information collected, stored and used in connection with its services (collectively, the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and share personal information, and the rights you have over it.
By accessing or using the Service — including registering for a Readality account, using our VR applications, using our creator publishing tools, or clicking a button indicating your consent — you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not register for an account or otherwise use the Service.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to personal information collected through:
- Readality VR applications distributed on Meta Quest and other platforms;
- Websites operated by Readality, including readality.com and the creator dashboard at app.readality.com; and
- Related account, publishing, payout, and support services.
It does not apply to third-party websites, platforms or services, including those linked to or from the Service, or to information collected directly by VR platform operators such as Meta (see Section 3).
2. Information We Collect
2.1. Information you provide to us
- Account information: name, email address, username and password when you register on the web.
- Creator information: if you publish on Readality, the information needed to operate your creator account and pay you — display name, country, payout account identifiers (processed by our payment provider), and applicable tax information.
- Communications: feedback, community discussions, support requests, and records of correspondence when you contact us.
2.2. Information received from VR platforms
When you use Readality on a VR headset and sign in through the platform operator (e.g., Meta), we receive limited information from that platform: your platform user ID and public profile (name, username), and confirmations of your purchases and entitlements so we can deliver the content you own. We use this to link your reading library and progress to your account.
2.3. Information collected automatically
- Usage data: how you use the app — for example, reading progress, titles opened, time spent reading, and which features you use — so the Service works and improves.
- Device and log data: app version, device model, operating system version, crash and performance reports; and, on our websites, IP address and browser information.
- Local device storage: the app may read and write to your device's storage for features such as downloaded content, reading history and settings. This data stays on your device unless needed to sync your library.
2.4. Public areas
If you participate in public or shared features of the Service (e.g., shared reading rooms, community features, reviews), information you share there can be seen by other users. Please use caution when disclosing personal information in these areas.
3. Data We Do Not Collect — VR Platform Data
Most of the data generated when you use a VR headset is collected and controlled by the platform operator, not by Readality. In particular:
- Headset and sensor data (movement, environment mapping, hand and eye tracking, audio) is collected and processed by Meta or the relevant platform operator under its own privacy policy. Readality does not receive this data.
- Payment information: purchases made in VR are processed by the platform operator (e.g., Meta In-App Purchases). Readality never receives or stores your payment card details; we receive only transaction confirmations needed to deliver your content and calculate creator revenue.
- Platform account data: your Meta account and Horizon profile are governed by Meta's privacy policy. We encourage you to review it, along with the privacy settings available on your headset.
Where analytics about the app's audience are provided to us by a platform operator, we receive them in aggregated or anonymized form.
4. How We Use Information
We use personal information to:
- Operate, maintain and deliver the Service, including syncing your library and reading progress;
- Authenticate accounts and enable secure login;
- Deliver purchased content and, for creators, calculate and pay revenue shares and issue applicable tax slips;
- Provide customer and technical support;
- Improve the Service, including personalization of features and recommendations;
- Develop new products and services;
- Communicate with you regarding the Service, updates and, with your consent where required, promotions — any commercial electronic message complies with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) and includes an unsubscribe mechanism;
- Detect, prevent and address fraud, abuse and security incidents; and
- Comply with legal obligations and platform policies.
We may use aggregated or anonymized data, which does not identify you, for analytics, research and statistical purposes.
5. Sharing of Information
Readality does not sell or rent your personal information.
We may share personal information with:
- Service providers: third parties that provide hosting and infrastructure, analytics, payment and payout processing, customer support or similar services on our behalf, under contractual confidentiality and security obligations;
- Platform providers: Meta and other distribution platforms, as necessary for authentication, distribution, purchases or compliance;
- Affiliates: entities controlled by or under common control with Readality;
- Legal requirements: law enforcement or public authorities where required by subpoena, court order or applicable law, or to protect the rights, property or safety of Readality, its users or others; and
- Corporate transactions: a successor entity in the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization or sale of assets, subject to this Privacy Policy or equivalent protections.
6. Cookies & Analytics
On our websites, Readality and its partners may use cookies, tags, scripts and similar technologies for authentication, preferences, analytics, crash reporting and, with consent where required, marketing measurement. HTML emails may include identifiers indicating whether a message was opened. You can disable cookies in your browser settings; some functionality may be limited as a result. Analytics data we use is aggregated wherever possible.
7. Security
We maintain industry-standard technical, organizational and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encryption of data in transit and at rest where applicable, and access restricted to authorized personnel. However, no transmission or storage system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a confidentiality incident involving your personal information that presents a risk of serious injury, we will notify you and the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec as required by law.
8. Retention & Deletion
We retain personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, comply with legal obligations (e.g., tax and accounting records), or resolve disputes. Upon account deletion or a valid deletion request, personal information is securely deleted or anonymized, except where retention is required by law. Electronic files are deleted using methods designed to prevent recovery.
9. International Transfers
Your personal information may be stored and processed in Canada and, through our service providers, in other countries including the United States. Before communicating personal information outside Quebec, we assess whether it will receive adequate protection, in particular in light of generally recognized principles regarding the protection of personal information, and we implement contractual safeguards where appropriate.
10. Your Rights
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you and obtain details on how it has been used and shared;
- Rectify inaccurate or incomplete information;
- Withdraw consent to the collection, use or disclosure of your information, and request deletion, subject to legal retention requirements;
- Portability: receive computerized personal information you provided to us in a structured, commonly used technological format, or have it transferred to another organization, as provided by Quebec's Law 25; and
- Opt out of marketing communications at any time via account settings, the unsubscribe link in any message, or by contacting us.
To exercise these rights, log into your account or contact our Privacy Officer (Section 13). We will respond within the timelines required by law and may take reasonable steps to verify your identity. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
11. Children's Privacy
The Service is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. In accordance with Quebec law, we do not collect personal information from a minor under 14 without the consent of the person having parental authority, except where collection is clearly for the minor's benefit. If you believe a child has provided us personal information without the required consent, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
12. Updates to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The revised policy takes effect when posted on our website or within the Service, and the revision date at the top will be updated. In the event of material changes, we will provide additional notice (e.g., by email or in-app notification) before the changes take effect.
